The Naulakha Pavilion, one of the most enchanting jewels of Lahore Fort, was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1633. Constructed largely of gleaming white marble, the elegant pavilion is famous for its distinctive curved roof, inspired by the traditional architecture of Bengal, and its exquisite pietra dura decoration using precious and semi-precious stones. Its name, Naulakha, refers to the enormous sum of nine lakh rupees traditionally associated with its construction. Situated beside the Sheesh Mahal in the Shah Burj Quadrangle, the pavilion was part of Shah Jahan’s private royal spaces and reflects the extraordinary refinement of Mughal architecture.
